Lawmakers Bypassing Normal Budget Process to Spend $600M Settlement
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
Proceeds from a $600 million settlement with the federal government over plutonium storage in South Carolina weren’t included in any state budget versions crafted by lawmakers for the upcoming fiscal year.
But that doesn’t mean they aren’t planning to spend the massive windfall.
Last month, a joint resolution was quietly introduced in the Senate to spend the settlement funds, though the proposal didn’t contain any specifics on who would receive the money or how much of it would be appropriated. The “shell” resolution was sponsored by longtime Senate Finance Committee chairman Hugh Leatherman, R-Florence, and was referred to his budget-writing committee.
Save Our Children
- By Dr. Duke Pesta - The New American
The well-being of America’s children is being sacrificed on the altar of globalism and social justice. It’s time to get them out of the public schools.
Time is running out.
The progressive resetting of American public schools is about to be unleashed with full force on drowsy, preoccupied, and COVID-weary families from coast to coast and from preschool through high school. What we’ve seen accelerating for months now — rolled out in experimental and ham-fisted ways on virtual platforms and behind the fog of masked and socially distanced chaos — is about to become the primary way to “teach” our children and oversee “education” in government schools. New, transformative education mandates will also redirect the learning policies of the majority of private and so-called religious schools that take their pedagogical cues not from classical education or scriptural models, but from ideologically driven university departments of education, with their tenured armies of social justice-drunk educrats and administrators.
Financial Censorship of America First
- By Michelle Malkin
Another day, another de-banking. Imagine a ruthless country where peaceful citizens who fearlessly defend their heritage, their families and their faith can wake up in the morning and find themselves cut off from their entire life savings with no explanation and no recourse. That country is not Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela or Iran.
That country is America in 2021.
Will Republicans Step Up to Challenge on Values?
- By Star Parker
For sure, Democrats rejoiced as they watched Republicans painfully twist in the wind at the beginning of LGBTQ Pride Month, trying to figure out how to position their party on this issue.
Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel got flak from the right and from the left, as she essentially waved a white flag, declaring Republican Party neutrality on a key issue of our cultural conflicts.
"We will continue to grow our big tent by supporting measures that promote fairness and balance protections for LGBTQ Americans and those with deeply held religious beliefs," she tweeted.
At DOJ, a Brief Encounter with LGBT Outrage
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
It was Flag Day, Monday, and we all know which one the Biden administration was flying. This president has pledged his allegiance to the LGBT cause so completely that he can't even give religious freedom a passing nod without being skinned alive by the radical Left. Last week, when the Justice Department even hinted at defending the constitutional rights of Christian colleges, the fringe wing of the party blew a gasket. The DOJ is "aligning itself with anti-LGBTQ hate," they cried. Actually, the Justice Department was just doing its job. But they won't be doing it long, if outside extremists get their way.
How One State Representative Can Make a Difference
- By Eagle Forum
What do the Equal Rights Amendment, the Equality Act, the For the People Act, the Violence Against Women Act, D.C. Statehood, partisan-immigration “reforms” and trillion-dollar spending have in common? The House of Representatives passed these bills with little to no Republican support. And the Senate wants to do the same! You are probably frustrated by this long list of bills. But the fight in creating a better nation for our kids is NOT over.
All Is Hype for the Biden-Putin Summit
- By Pat Buchanan
History repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce.
Karl Marx's comment came to mind as President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Boris Johnson sought to equate their tete-a-tete at the G7 confab in Cornwall, England, to the Atlantic Charter conference of 80 years ago.
Those were historic days, to which these days cannot compare.
In August 1941, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Franklin D. Roosevelt met secretly on warships off Newfoundland to confer and commit to a set of principles that were to govern the world after the defeat of a then-triumphant Nazism.

Hampton’s Campaign for Governor, The Revolution of 1876 – Part 9
- By Bob Dill - Publisher of The Times Examiner
From an historical perspective, it is interesting to note that the events culminating with the election of Wade Hampton, III Governor of South Carolina, came exactly 100 years after the American Revolution, and has been termed by some historians, the Second American Revolution. impacting the whole of the republic and reshaping the two-party political system for decades to come.
The Upstate and Greenville County, especially Upper Greenville County had an impressive role in kicking off the campaign with the most impressive rally of the entire campaign when their hero and hope for the future arrived at the railroad station and held a rally on the campus of Furman University.
States Rights and the Future of Liberty
- By Mike Scruggs
Remembering John C. Calhoun
In 1830, President Andrew Jackson through Senator Thomas Hart Benton of Missouri, arranged for an elaborate Democratic Party dinner to celebrate on April 13, the birthday of Thomas Jefferson and the Jeffersonian principles of the new Democratic Party. This was held at Brown’s Indian Queen Hotel in Washington. Political tension was increasing because of the effects of the substantial and controversial tariff increases that had been passed in 1828. These tariffs favored Northern manufacturers and punished farmers, especially those exporting agricultural products. The tariffs were having the most devastating economic impact on the cotton producing states of the South. Among these, South Carolina, was suffering the most.
Holes Still Exist In DOT’s Pothole Numbers
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
The number of potholes that the S.C. Department of Transportation claims it patched statewide jumped by more than 300,000 over the last four fiscal years, according to agency annual reports.
The Nerve has reported that DOT’s annual numbers in recent years were merely estimates. But DOT now says the 678,984 potholes it filled during fiscal 2020 was an actual count, according to records provided by the agency under the state Freedom of Information Act.
Do We Have A National Death Wish?
- By W.H. Lamb
As of last September 17, 2020, our nation—the United States of America—had existed as a Constitutional Republic for 233 years, thanks to the wisdom, the faith, the fortitude, and the willingness to reach compromises, on the part of the Founders who signed the 1787 constitution and, a few years later, our Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to that constitution. During those 233 years our venerable constitution has weathered many attacks against it, and has been amended a total of 27 times. Despite the hordes of calumnies directed against our constitution by mental midgets and Godless collectivists, and especially against those inspired men who codified many of the God-given rights enshrined therein, it has stood the test of time by providing a national “blueprint” for the governance of our nation through war and peace, through good and bad economic times, through disasters caused by human foibles and corruption, through the shadowy conspiracies of “Un-Americans” who were—and still are-- determined to end this “experiment in self-government” in favor of some form of collectivist coercion.
Salute to Old Glory
- By Anne Schlafly Cori
In 1989, a deeply divided Supreme Court invalidated the laws that prohibited the burning of our American flag in the case Texas v. Johnson on the basis of free speech. Since then, the symbol of our nation has been dishonored and diluted. Other flags are being flown in place of our American flag. Other flags are being flown with our American flag. Some flags (such as "BLM" flags) are flown to separate and divide Americans, not unite Americans.
There is a movement to fly the rainbow "Pride" flag in June on U.S. military bases. Of all the places that should only fly the Stars and Stripes should be any place associated with the defense of our nation. The Department of Defense is tacitly allowing "Pride" flags on bases. I believe that Americans should only salute the red-white-and-blue.
STOP H.R. 1 & S. 1: Unconstitutional Federal Takeover of Elections NOTE: DANGEROUS LEGISLATION ALERT!!!!!
- By The John Birch Society
URGENT: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has announced that the Senate will vote on S. 1 in the last week of June, or sooner! Although Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced he will vote against the bill, Democrats are seeking to amend the bill to gain his support. The Senate is the primary obstacle to enacting S. 1/ H.R. 1; tell your senators to oppose any version of this bill!
Sponsored by John Sarbanes (D-Md.) and co-sponsored by Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), H.R. 1 was introduced on January 4, 2021, immediately after start of the 117th Congress. The Senate version, S. 1, sponsored by Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), has 48 co-sponsors and was introduced on March 17, 2021.
SALTY SEZ – Upside Down World
- By Ray Simmons
Last week I talked about the bad news. This week I’m talking about the GOOD news. Of course, the real “good news” is the Gospel of Jesus Christ: His birth, His ministry, His death, His burial and His rising 3 days later. Another part of the good news is the Bible God has given us explains this good news. Often what I speak about includes references to the scriptures to illustrate the commentary. I am not a pastor nor a teacher of the scriptures…just a plain old Bible reader and truth seeker. In searching I have been introduced to a Pastor and Bible teacher who I believe is the best I have ever heard. He introduces his topic and examines its pros and cons in simple language anyone can understand. When he draws his conclusion you can put your faith in it. He doesn’t back away from controversy nor politics when they are pertinent. He even has a Friday evening program he calls pastors’ point of view (ppov), wherein he and another pastor discuss what is going on in the world today and how it fits into God’s plans. His name is Andrew (Andy) Woods. The church he pastors is the Sugar Land Bible Church in Sugar Land, Texas. https//slbc.org
Kamala Harris Just Keeps Getting Worse
- By David Limbaugh
No matter how mentally diminished President Joe Biden is, you have to be horrified by who waits in the wings should he leave office before the expiration of his term.
Unfortunately, one of the many consequences of Biden's mental decline is an impairment of judgment that manifests itself in such reckless decisions as putting Vice President Kamala Harris in charge of the border. It is like making a colicky infant the goalie of a professional hockey team. If Biden were more alert, I would suspect it was his way of seeking revenge against Harris and those who foisted her on to his presidential ticket.
Why Are American Leaders Not Protecting Our Interests When It Comes to China and COVID-19?
- By Neil Patel
What happens when a country loses interest in protecting itself? That's what we are living through in America today. COVID-19 has killed 600,000 Americans. Yet the U.S. government and top American leaders have generally been passive, or even uninterested, in learning how it all started.
How can that be? It's almost unimaginable that every single American would not want to find out the truth. That so few do is just another example of the sad place we find ourselves. Six hundred thousand dead Americans? Ho-hum. That's the attitude nationally.
Senate Unlikely to Pass Voting Reform Bill, But Fight is NOT Over
- By Eagle Forum
Previous Sunday another nail was put in the coffin of S.1, the For the People Act or as Republicans like to call it the Corrupt Politicians Act. The ultra-partisan bill was unlikely to ever garner enough Republican support to reach the sixty-vote threshold needed to pass the bill and now Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) stated he would not support the bill.
In an op-ed featured in Charleston Gazette-Mail, Manchin stated:
Joe Manchin: Racist or Profile in Courage
- By Pat Buchanan
In 1859, Abraham Lincoln related the tale of an Eastern monarch who charged his wise men with discovering words that would everywhere and always be true.
The wise men went away and returned to present the monarch with this six-word sentence: "And this, too, shall pass away."
So, the question: How long will Sen. Joe Manchin's hour of power last before it, too, passes away?
BJU Places Second at 2021 IGVC Competition
- By Press Release
The Bob Jones University robotics team placed second in design and second overall in the 28th annual Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, June 4-7. The team was awarded a total of $2,000 in prize money and presented with a trophy commemorating their achievement.
Due to challenges related to the coronavirus pandemic and reduced in-person education at some institutions, BJU competed against a smaller field of competitors this year which included Cedarville University, Gannon University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Lawrence Technological University, Oakland University, University of Oklahoma and Wayne State University. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University won the Grand Award.
Virginia District Hears Parents Loudoun Clear
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
One thing was for sure: they didn't come to be quiet. The parents of Loudoun County, Virginia who were packed into every available chair at Tuesday's school board meeting were angry. For months, they'd been warring with the district over its woke curriculum in a feud so bitter that it made the national news. But it was the suspension of Tanner Cross, a P.E. teacher who spoke out about a new transgender policy, that turned the local temperature from hot to boiling.
