What's Happening at the Statehouse This Week
- By SC Policy Council
This week, things in the State House are beginning to speed up as both chambers will likely vote on a number of significant bills. The joint committee evaluating offers to buy Santee Cooper is also scheduled to meet.
In the House, lawmakers have fast-tracked a bill that would create a powerful mini-government within the Tri-County Technical College for the purpose of driving economic development. This new entity – called an “enterprise authority” – would have the power to issue revenue bonds on behalf of the college, collect fees for undefined purposes, and possibly even exercise eminent domain. If passed by the House, it will go to the governor’s desk.
The Growing Assault on Private Property Are Single-Family Homes “Racist?”
- By Tom DeWeese
One of the main indicators used by economists to measure the health of the nation’s economy is housing starts – the number of private homes being built around the nation. In 2018 housing starts fell in all four regions of the nation, representing the biggest drop since 2016.
While many economists point to issues such as higher material costs as a reason for the drop in housing starts, a much more ominous reason may be emerging. Across the nation, city councils and state legislatures are beginning to remove zoning protections for single-family neighborhoods, claiming they are racist discrimination designed to keep certain minorities out of such neighborhoods. In response to these charges some government officials are calling for the end of single-family homes in favor of multiple family apartments.
Eugenics, Euthanasia, Infanticide, and the Lord’s Work
- By Marilyn M. Singleton, MD, JD
New York’s Catholic Democratic Governor had the World Trade Center in lights to celebrate its abortion-on-demand-until-the-day-of-birth law. This law was framed as empowering women through guaranteeing “Reproductive Health.” Women in New York must be really powerful since New York’s abortion rate is twice the national average. This and eight other similar state laws were largely ignored as merely codifying Roe v Wade. But the state of Virginia’s Democratic pediatrician governor’s ghoulish advocacy for abortion until delivery of the infant was jaw-dropping as he explained that killing the infant after birth was allowed.
A Perfect Opportunity To Contrast With the Secular Left
- By Erick Erickson - The Resurgent
Ralph Northam should probably resign for lying in his press conference. I’m not sure what was more embarrassing, his excuse or almost beginning the moonwalk till his wife stopped him.
As for the picture itself, Ralph Northam and the rest of us are thirty-five years removed from it and we owe it to the man to judge him on the conduct of his life, not on a photograph. This is the perfect opportunity to contrast our values from the secular left.

Congress Should Censure VA Governor Northam
- By Phyllis Schlafly Eagles
St. Louis, MO: "Congress should use their effort to reject truly vile rhetoric like that of Virginia Governor Ralph Northam this week rather than censure the misquoted Rep. Steve King," said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. "The truly stomach-turning description of infanticide that Gov. Northam gave this week in defense of a late-term abortion bill in the Virginia House deserves the strong disapproval of every member of government and the action of every American.

Abortion Extremism Exposing Left's Moral Contradictions
- By David Limbaugh
It's horrifying that we are rapidly approaching the kind of culture that God ordered the Israelites to wipe out when he finally allowed them to enter the land he had promised them -- a culture of rampant immorality, idolatry and child sacrifice.
For the longest time, the political left insisted that it was not pro-abortion but pro-choice, that it truly wanted to make abortion safe, legal and rare. I never could quite grasp why liberals would care about making it rare if they didn't consider the unborn to be human lives. But that is the position they firmly held -- obviously for political expediency.
Liberals Censor Free Speech about Diversity
- By John & Andy Schlafly
Another day, another innocent person is destroyed by the social media mob for an innocuous expression of free speech. The apostles of diversity police our speech and aggressively enforce a speech code according to “politically correct” liberal dogmas.
First it was Congressman Steve King (R-IA), who was wrongly ostracized by his colleagues for wondering when the term Western Civilization became offensive. A week later it was 15-year-old Nick Sandmann, a junior at Covington Catholic High School, who was confronted at the March for Life by a “tribal elder” banging a drum.

Trump vs. the Spy Chiefs: Who's Right?
- By Pat Buchanan
To manifest his opposition to President Donald Trump's decision to pull all 2,000 U.S. troops out of Syria, and half of the 14,000 in Afghanistan, Gen. James Mattis went public and resigned as secretary of defense.
Now Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, in public testimony to Congress, has contradicted Trump about the threats that face the nation.
Contrary to what the president believes, Coats says, North Korea is unlikely to give up its nuclear weapons. ISIS remains a serious threat, even if the caliphate has been rolled up. And there is no evidence that Iran, though hostile and aggressive, is acquiring nuclear weapons.

SCDOT Plan for Gas-Tax-Hike Money Focused onInterstates
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
The state transportation department plans to spend well more than a third of gas-tax-hike revenues on widening and repaving interstates instead of using those funds to repair crumbling community roads and bridges – as promised by lawmakers – according to an agency document obtained by The Nerve.
In a PowerPoint presentation to the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association at the trade association’s conference in Columbia in January 2018 – nearly seven months after the gas-tax-hike law took effect – the S.C. Department of Transportation projected that:

"Drag Qeen Story Time" at the FIVE FORKS LIBRARY
- By Christina Jeffrey
Obviously, the point of this is to push our culture further left and to supplant Christian norms. But, you say, the librarians in Charlotte are probably more demonic than those in Greenville County. True, but even moderates (including cowardly Christians) are afraid of being ridiculed should they give in to the Christian deplorables who constitute a majority of people here compared with the less Christian, less deplorable citizens of Charlotte.

Nancy Pelosi's God Problem
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
Just 27 days ago, Nancy Pelosi claimed the Speaker's gavel and promised that her House would be "bipartisan and unifying." What have we seen since? House Democrats are pushing to open the floodgates of millions of taxpayer dollars to pay for elective abortions -- even as Speaker Pelosi insists that she can't offer more than a dollar to build a border wall. And then yesterday, Democrats on the Natural Resources Committee announced they would remove "so help you God" from the oath that is administered to witnesses who testify before the committee. So under the new Democratic House majority, it's "yes" to taxpayer funding for abortion, "no" to a border wall, and "no" to God.

An American Nightmare
- By Judge Andrew Napolitano
Last Friday, on a quiet residential street at 6 in the morning, the neighborhood exploded in light, noise and terror. Seventeen SUVs and two armored vehicles arrived in front of one house. Each vehicle had sirens blaring and lights flashing. The house, which abutted a canal, was soon surrounded by 29 government agents, each wearing military garb, each carrying a handgun and most carrying high-powered automatic rifles.
In the canal were two amphibious watercraft, out of which more heavily armed government agents came. Circling above all this was a helicopter equipped with long-range precision weaponry and high-powered spotlights.
