Duncan Bill Defunds Localities that Allow Noncitizen Voting
- By Press Release
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) introduced new legislation to protect the integrity of American elections nationwide by eliminating federal funding for any municipality that allows noncitizens to vote in local or statewide elections:
“Being an American citizen comes with great benefits and responsibilities, which includes voting in elections. The dangerous initiatives that have been popping up across the country that grant voting rights to illegal immigrants and noncitizens are very concerning. Allowing noncitizens to vote undermines the rights of American citizens and puts our democracy at risk. Municipalities that allow noncitizens to vote in their elections are more likely to adopt the types of radical sanctuary city policies that promote illegal activity, undermine law enforcement, and suppress the concerns of citizen voters.

2018’s Most & Least Educated Cities in America
- By wallethub.com
Cities want to attract highly educated workers to fuel their economic growth and tax revenues. Higher levels of education tend to lead to higher salaries. And the more that graduates earn, the more tax dollars they contribute over time, according to the Economic Policy Institute. In turn, educated people want to live somewhere where they will get a good return on their educational investment. People also tend to marry others of the same educational level. Already having a large educated population may be a good way to draw in even more people with degrees.
Not all highly educated people will flock to the same areas, though. Some may prefer to have many people with similar education levels around them for socializing and career connections. Others may want to be a big fish in a little pond. Not every city will provide the same quality of life to those with higher education, either.

Shared Wisdom on a Silver Anniversary
- By Michelle Malkin
To commemorate my 25th wedding anniversary this week to my husband, Jesse, I asked readers on Facebook to share their own secrets to a long happy marriage.
In short, the crowdsourced recipe for marital endurance includes faith, forgiveness, romance, kindness, selflessness and a healthy dose of humor. A union built to last begins with a promise and persists through compromise and commitment. It is about keeping your word, choosing the right words and knowing when no words are necessary.
Teri L. emphasized: "Marriage is WORK. You have to put effort into it. You have to love and nurture the relationship. It has to be priority. You have to respect it."
Observation of a First Grade Teacher on Socialism
- By Johnnelle Raines - Pickens, SC
I have an observation I think proves our nation is indeed in trouble and leaning heavily toward socialism.
When I first began my teaching career in 1974 as a first-grade teacher, I always read aloud daily to my students. The Ant and the Grasshopper and The Little Red Hen were two favorites that the students loved to hear.
After I read these books aloud, I would always ask for what the students thought the author was trying to teach us ... what was his/her main idea?
"Smart" is Destroying America
- By Michelle Mancini - Bluffton, SC
Smart electric water and gas meters have been, and are being installed on homes and businesses without individuals informed consent. These meters are health, privacy and safety hazards that violate our Fourth Amendment. With “smart," everything you do is sent to a data bank.
If “smart” meters were in our best interest, they would sell themselves and would not have communities around the world resisting or states and municipalities here legislating against them. There would be no need to coerce the public for their installation. There would be transparency instead of secrecy.

Is Putin's Russia an 'Evil Empire'?
- By Pat Buchanan
History repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce," a saying attributed to Karl Marx, comes to mind in this time of Trump.
To those of us raised in the Truman era, when the Red Army was imposing its bloody Bolshevik rule on half of Europe, and NATO was needed to keep Stalin's armies from the Channel, the threat seemed infinitely more serious. And so it was.
There were real traitors in that time.

The Great Adjustment
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Two weeks ago, The Times Examiner published its last full sheet hard copy newspaper. The Palmetto State conservative family newspaper is now all digital and available on the internet only. This has been a great adjustment for the entire staff of the newspaper. We no longer need the news racks located across the county from Merietta to Greer and Mauldin. We no longer make a weekly trip to the post office, where we will miss our friends Mary and her team who have been very helpful in many ways.

South Carolina Plan to Ensure Only Constitutionally Qualified Candidates Placed on South Carolina Presidential Ballots
- By Christina Jeffrey, Ph.D.
Introduction
Jan. 14, 2016, during a Republican Presidential Primary debate in Charleston, SC, Donald Trump discussed the danger were someone without the requisite qualifications to be President were nevertheless nominated. He warned that the Democrats were poised to bring a suit against any Republican who was not a natural born citizen. This kind of danger and the ensuing chaos can be avoided in 2020 and years to come by passing a bill to require all candidates seeking ballot access in South Carolina, to be fully, constitutionally eligible for the Presidency. This means, per Article II, section 1, clause 5, of the Constitution, that they be natural born citizens, at least 35 years of age and 14 years a resident of the United States.

Becoming More Relevant
- By Ben Graydon
In this neck of the woods, “Where do y’all go to church?” is usually the second or third question after “Where do you live?” or “What do you do?” Going to church is a socially-normal thing to do around here; it’s part of the culture. But “where” is probably the only biblically-based descriptor there is for this thing we call “church.” Geography is not, however, where church stops. There are denominations, and divisions within denominations, and preferred doctrines, including what other divisions are safe to associate with.
What denomination was Jesus?
Seriously.
What really matters?

Can We Trust Experts?
- By Walter Williams
Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers predicted that if Donald Trump were elected, there would be a protracted recession within 18 months. Heeding its experts, a month before the election, The Washington Post ran an editorial with the headline "A President Trump could destroy the world economy." Steve Rattner, a Democratic financier and former head of the National Economic Council, warned, "If the unlikely event happens and Trump wins, you will see a market crash of historic proportions." When Trump's electoral victory became apparent, Nobel Prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman warned that the world was "very probably looking at a global recession, with no end in sight." By the way, Krugman has been so wrong in so many of his economic predictions, but that doesn't stop him from making more shameless predictions.

Is Another “Civil War” on the Near Horizon? – Part 1
- By W.H. Lamb
Before we get started pondering this troubling question, let’s define exactly what a “civil war” is and is not. Following are some pertinent definitions:
- Webster’s Dictionary: A civil war is a war between opposing groups of citizens in the SAME country;
- Wikipedia: A civil war, also known as an ‘intrastate war’, is a war between organized groups within the SAME country;
- Collins English Dictionary: A civil war is a war which is fought between different groups of people who live in the SAME country.
Plainly, the determining factor is that violent, armed conflict must occur in the SAME country between the conflicting groups – the object of which is to wrest control (or maintain control) of the EXISTING government within ONE country. Armed conflicts that occur between opposing groups in two SEPARATE countries are not then properly defined as a “civil war.”

Optimal Time
- By Heather Sheen
We made a lively group at the dinner table that night. My sister and I were staying with a homeschooling family of 10 kids. That made 14 of us at the table, all talking 90 mph. Discussion flew back and forth concerning politics, toy trucks, theology, dolls, sleeping bags, movies and everything else a group from the ages 2-55 could think of. Until Junior caught a word from the adults and asked a question. “What’s a homosexual?”
Wow, that table got quiet. I felt for Junior’s parents, who obviously weren’t ready to answer that. I kept my mouth shut, not sure how much they wanted 10-year-old Junior to know. But the silence grew embarrassingly long and I finally realized they weren’t going to answer the question at all.
An Adorable Deplorable Speaks
- By Frank Hall - Greenville, SC
In 1936 my friend Howard had an opportunity to acquire a newspaper route. The “Great Depression” was nearing an end, but jobs were still very scarce, so Howard jumped at the chance without considering possible undesirable consequences. During the summer months Howard’s family liked to go on fishing trips at least once every week. Now Howard couldn’t go with them as he had to deliver his papers. Like a good friend should, I learned Howard’s route and substituted for him on family trip days so he could go, too.
Strategic and Humanitarian Concerns about South Africa
- By Mike Scruggs
Will Black Empowerment Socialism Make South Africa Great?
In terms of natural resources, the Republic of South Africa is one of the richest counties in the world. Most people are aware that South Africa produces a large share of the world’s diamonds for jewelry and industrial purposes. In fact, 65 percent of diamond production comes from South Africa. It also has 50 percent of the world’s gold mine resources and 38 percent of known gold reserves. In 1993, it produced 30 percent of annual global gold production. South Africa still produces 12 percent of global gold production and ranks seventh internationally. South Africa ranks seventh in international coal production and is the third largest exporter of coal. It is also the third largest exporter of iron ore to the world’s largest iron ore user, China. South Africa has the fifth largest uranium reserves in the world.

In an interview with CBN News, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the United States will not agree to Vladmir Putin’s request for certain American citizens to be interrogated by Russian officials in exchange for help with the twelve Russians who were indicted for election hacking. “That’s not going to happen,“ Secretary Pompeo says from the Treaty Room at the State Department. “The administration is not going to send, force Americans to travel to Russia to be interrogated by Vladimir Putin and his team.” The White House had previously said they would be discussing Putin’s offer.

Biblical Illiterates Reverse Romans 13: Teach Submit to Tyranny!
- By Bradlee Dean
Caesar had his Brutus, Charles the first his Cromwell; And George the third- Treason! Cried the speaker- May profit by their example. If this be treason, make the most of it. –Patrick Henry
Recently, I received a newspaper article from a confused, biblically illiterate friend asking me what my take was on an article titled, “Scripture teaches to submit to authorities” with reference to Romans Chapter 13. In this article, the author was calling out a Christian for protesting a corrupt representative in government, even going so far as to suggest this protestant ought to have stayed home to read their Bible rather than to protest corruption in government. He went onto say that we are commanded by Scripture to submit to the authorities that have been elected.
