Gone with the Wind
- By Mike Scruggs
Remembering Struggle and Courage
“There was once a land of Cavaliers and cotton fields called the Old South. Here in this pretty world Gallantry took its last bow. Here was last ever seen the Knights and their Ladies Fair, master and slave. Look for it only in books because it is no more than a dream remembered, a Civilization Gone with the Wind.”
Gone with the Wind, first published in June 1936, is according to many sources, the most successful and widely read novel ever published in America. The author, Margaret Mitchell of Atlanta, received a Pulitzer Prize in May of 1937 for her sweeping historical novel of the Old South set during the War for Southern Independence and Reconstruction. The novel was also wildly successful internationally. By 1965, it had been published in twenty-five different languages in twenty-nine countries.
Sheriff Should “Do the Right Thing”
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Greenville County Sheriff Will Lewis has created a mess. If reports in the Greenville News are true, he has disgraced his office, Greenville County, the Republican Party and his family. In the view of many county citizens, he does not have the moral or ethical character to serve as the top law enforcement officer in the County. Lewis has stated that he will not resign, and the Governor will not remove him from office unless he is charged with a crime. SLED is currently conducting an investigation and members of the County Council are asking for an audit of the Sheriff’s Office.
A True American Patriot
- By Frank Raddish
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” - Proverbs 29:2
Politicians are a dime-a-dozen, but statesmen are rare coins.
Many of our founding forefathers were political leaders who put God, family, and country first. Today, too many of our political leaders promote themselves above everything else. Men like John Adams, John Quincy Adams and Patrick Henry were born again believers that stood for godliness in and out of political office.
Hang Down Your Head Tom Steyer
- By David Thompson
CueTom Dooley by Kingston Trio, and substitute Tom Steyer…” Hang down your head Tom Steyer, hang down your head and cry, hang down your head Tom Steyer, poor boy you’re bound to die.” It is the only inescapable truth, we are all going to die, and nobody can buy their way out of the last act.
Tom Steyer is a progressive billionaire who puts his money where his mouth is on myriad political causes. Rumor has it he is considering a run for Governor of California, a perfect clone to current Governor Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown. Tom Steyer made his money on Wall Street investing in companies like Exxon he now vilifies as an environmental activist.

Vietnam: The Battle for Historical Perspective
- By Mike Scruggs
What the Ken Burns PBS Series Did Not Tell You
The late Harry G. Summers, Jr., Colonel of Infantry and distinguished faculty member of the Army War College, often called people’s attention to the fact that considerable differences in the treatment of the Vietnam War can be seen in the literature published in academia and that published by the veterans who served during the war. Summers also called attention to the fact that the perspective of the veterans differs considerably among themselves according to the time frame of their involvement and their role.
The U.S. involvement in the war began in a counterinsurgency role, but soon after the disastrous overthrow of South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem, foolishly encouraged by the Kennedy Administration in November 1963, we were involved in trying to hurl back major North Vietnamese Army (NVA) offensives. The removal and subsequent murder of Diem by South Vietnamese coup leaders resulted in over two years of political and military instability in South Vietnam. Both President Johnson and President Nixon called this orchestrated regime change one of the biggest mistakes of the war. North Vietnamese leaders could hardly believe their good fortune and responded with a massive escalation of NVA troops, weapons, and supplies.

NGU’s Tomberlin Joins PurrCussion, Carolina Panthers Drumline
- By North Greenville University
Tigerville, SC – Chase Tomberlin, a senior music major from Greer, has more going on in his life than just going to class and studying. He has a part-time job, but not just any part-time job. He travels two times a week, maybe more, to Charlotte, NC to rehearse with the Carolina Panthers PurrCussion drumline, a percussion ensemble that performs during every Carolina Panthers home game.
“Being on the sideline of an NFL game is a lot of fun,” said Tomberlin.
He heard about the drumline from a friend he taught with through North Greenville Indoor Percussion, a non-profit youth percussion ensemble sponsored by North Greenville University. He auditioned in April, shortly after the end of the Indoor season.

Greenville County Council Dispute Going to Court
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The legal battle in Greenville County Council is coming to a conclusion – at least in court.
The legal complaint filed by members of Greenville County Council against Chairman Butch Kirven will be heard in the Greenville County Courthouse Wednesday Morning, August 9 at 9:30 am.
The dispute began when Chairman Kirven ruled that fees on county taxpayers could be increased with only 7 votes of the 12-member Council. Council rules state that increases in taxes and fees require more than a simple majority.
Councilmen Willis Meadows, Joe Dill and Mike Barnes along with state lawmakers and other citizens asked the State Attorney General for an opinion on the Kirven decision. When the Attorney General opinion disagreed with Kirven, he decided to ignore it. That action by the chairman forced his opposition on Council to go to court to force compliance.
Kirven to Dump Finance Chair Over a $10 Fee
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
As Chairman of Greenville County Council, Herman “Butch” Kirven is determined to increase the county road maintenance fee from $15 to $25 using whatever means is available to him. A court challenge has blocked implementation of the proposed Ordinance, alleging that the vote was short of the legal requirement.
Vice Chairman Willis Meadows is one of the Council members opposed to the $10 fee increase. In accordance with county policy, the Vice Chairman, elected by the council members is also chairman of the Finance Committee.
Chairman Kirven informed the council members Friday by Memorandum that he had planned a policy change in the Committee of the Whole meeting for yesterday, Tuesday, July 18 at County Square.
Kirven informed the members as follows: “This memo gives notice that on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Committee of the Whole meeting and during the Committee Reports portion of the Regular Council Meeting, we will be making a motion to suspend notice and the amendment introduction provision in Council Rule VI (A). This will allow for the immediate adoption of a Rules amendment. The proposed amendment to Council Rule V (C) will allow for the Chairman of Council to appoint the Chair of the Finance Committee.”
If the proposal passed it was expected that Chairman Kirven would appoint Dr. Bob Taylor, someone he can control as Finance Chairman to support the fee increase.
The Taylor Force Act
- By David Thompson
In September of 2016, SC Senator Lindsey Graham- along with Sen. Tim Scott and others introduced a bill that became known as “The Taylor Force Act.” In late February, 2017 they reintroduced it in the current session as S-474. If you are looking for a single piece of legislation that you might focus on to lobby your elected officials to pass, the Taylor Force Act is a worthy vehicle for your attentions.
Taylor Force was a 29-year-old American whose all-too-brief life was none-the-less well-lived. A graduate of West Point, Taylor had shown his ambition and dedication to purpose early in life by becoming an Eagle Scout. He ran track and cross country, so he was an athlete as well as a very bright guy. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan fulfilling his commitment to the Army before retiring. Taylor was a graduate student in Vanderbilt University working on his MBA when he took a trip to Israel. The purpose of the trip was to observe global entrepreneurship; Israel is a leader in business start-ups and tech innovations. It was there that Taylor Force, an already accomplished young man full of still greater promise was killed by a Palestinian terrorist.
Alleged Crime in Oval Office
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Tragically the United States Government is on the verge of a constitutional crisis. Complicating the matter is the possibility that the investigative agencies of the government that would normally be able to solve the problems, may have themselves become politicized.
There are seemingly valid allegations that the Obama Administration intentionally released classified information pertaining to individuals working in the Trump campaign. The Democrats and their friends in the media are attempting to confuse the facts by making other allegations
Without any facts to support their claim, Democrats and liberal factions of the media claim that Republicans worked with Russians to disrupt the presidential aspirations of Hillary Clinton.

Paul Ryan, Establishment Hope for Blocking the Trump Agenda?
- By Mike Scruggs
Can We Kiss the Trump Legislative Agenda Goodbye?
The Freedom Caucus is not an enemy of the Trump Agenda. In fact, they may be the Trump Agenda’s most faithful friends. Besides radical Democrat fanaticism and their appallingly dishonest allies in the Leftstream media, Trump and the American people have a formidable obstacle to their agenda within the Republican Party.
Perhaps the most tragic and enormous danger to the United States, Europe, and Western Civilization is that so many of our political leaders believe a counterfactual narrative about the nature of Islam. Islam is not a peaceful and tolerant religion that has been hijacked by a few radicals. Based on the doctrines of its most sacred foundational standards—the Koran, the Sunna, and Sharia Law—it is a religious-wrapped ideology of Jihadist conquest and domination over all other religions, law systems, and cultures. It is violently anti-Christian, anti-Jewish, anti-Israel, anti-American, and anti-Western. Fourteen hundred years of Jihad, genocide, enslavement, and resurging terrorism in our time are the fruits of these doctrines. Silent “moderate” (largely secular or purely cultural) Muslims cannot erase sacred doctrine believed to be the will of Allah by the vast fundamentalist majority of Islamic clergy, scholars, and faithful believers. Islam is Islam. We cannot deal with truth and danger by making up politically correct or diplomatic fantasies.

VA Secretary: VA Will Not Be Privatized
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
“My sole focus is veterans and making sure their needs are met.” ~ Secretary of the VA, Dr. David Shulkin
Dr. David Shulkin, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, told Senators at his confirmation hearing that the VA would not be privatized under his watch.
The Military Officers Association provided more than fifty questions to the Senate Veteran Affairs Committee to be posed to the new Secretary, who is the first non-veteran to head up the VA, and the only Trump Cabinet member to have served in the Obama Administration.
Q: Where do you stand on privatization?
A: The VA is a unique national resource that is worth saving, and I am committed to doing just that. … I will seek major reform and a transformation of the VA. There will be far greater accountability, dramatically improved access, responsiveness, and expanded care options, but the Department of Veterans Affairs will not be privatized under my watch. … If confirmed, I intend to build a system that puts veterans first and allows them to get the best possible health care wherever it may be — in the VA or with community care.

Don't Forget Local Government
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Since the Presidential Election, most media attention has been focused on the national scene. I have been guilty of the same diversion. The excitement has been and continues to be at the national level with a new President very different than anything we have experienced in our lifetimes. It is an exciting time for conservatives and a frightening time for Communists, Muslims and advocates of the One-World Government.
Senator John McCain, who plays the role of a conservative to get reelected, told an international audience last week that President Trump is going about destroying 70 years of work done toward building a World Government. The aging former POW was on the verge of revealing his true world-view.
Muslim Refugees and the European Rape Epidemic
- By Mike Scruggs
The Role of Un-Free Speech, Political Correctness, and Islamic Doctrines
If I were writing and publishing this article in Sweden, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, or the UK, I could probably expect to be in court, heavily fined, or even jailed with little confidence of receiving a just hearing. When nations shield “protected classes” from criticism or fail to prosecute even-handedly criminals because of their “protected class,” they encourage lawlessness within that class and in general. They also incur the just resentment of the lawful citizens who endure these crimes. When nations punish those who speak out against such policies and their consequences, they silence truth and conscience and cross the boundaries of just government into totalitarian government. This also applies to the European Union, which has been inspiring and pushing its members into the misguided social manipulations of multiculturalism and diversity with a sharp totalitarian edge.

The Promise Keepers from CPAC 2017
- By LaDonna Ryggs
National Harbor, MD—Permeated with electricity and anticipation, a well-beyond capacity crowd began chants of “Trump, Trump,” in rippling waves, reminiscent of Inauguration Day.
President Trump’s speech was the highlight for the Conservative Political Action Committee’s (CPAC) conference. With likely 8,000 people in attendance, and a long line of people stretched around the halls hoping to get in, his speech was the most attended event of the conference. Even the media overflowed their section to cover the speech.
The speech began with a scathing attack of the Mainstream Media and its treatment of him, as he called it “Fake News.” But the majority of the speech could have been called “The Promise-Keeping” speech. To cheers, Trump went over a litany of his conservative reform agenda.
On Guns and Military: We will protect the 2nd Amendment. We will rebuild our military, we will respect our flag, and we will take care of our veterans. I want us to invest in our military once again. I have ordered our Defense Department to formulate a plan to eradicate ISIS.
The Forgotten Man Is Alive and Well at CPAC
- By LaDonna Ryggs
Conservatives grapple with the reality and permanence of “Rust Belt, Religion and Realignment,” as the GOP tent expands to include the Forgotten Man.
National Harbor, MD - The Conservative Political Action Committee, commonly known as CPAC, held its annual gathering at the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor, MD, last week. The program was a Who’s Who of iconic conservatives, ranging from elected officials and celebrities to policy experts, journalists and talk show hosts. A walk in the hallway for refreshment yielded great dividends of photo opportunities for attendees, such as Dog, the Bounty Hunter (Duane “Dog” Chapman) and Mr. Brexit, Nigel Farage (a member of the European Parliament).
Trump Visits Boeing Facility in Charleston
- By Jeff West
President Donald Trump and Governor Henry McMaster visited Charleston’s Boeing aircraft facility on February 17 for the new 787-10 Dreamliner airplane debut. Over 5,000 Boeing employees and VIPs attended the private event. The latest improvements in design and technology are incorporated into this new Dreamliner model, famous for its advanced lightweight carbon fiber construction. The most efficient jetliner ever, the 787-10 is 25% more efficient than similar-sized airplanes. First introduced in 2011, the 787 has carried 148 million people and saved 13 billion pounds of fuel.
The 787-10 will be built exclusively in Charleston, where almost 74% of the workers voted two days previously against unionization. This plant has the highest rate of production ever for twin-aisle airplanes, with orders for 149 of the 787-10.
Boeing VPs Joan Robinson-Berry and David Carbon thanked all those involved for their hard work on the new 787-10 in a private reception before the unveiling. Ms. Robinson-Berry said the numerous technological developments made at the Charleston facility are only possible in the flexible atmosphere of the union-free environment.
