BJU Communication Students Present at 2022 SSCA Convention

Three graduate students—Erica Connors, Patricia Duarte and Ashlyn Hunt—in the communication studies program at Bob Jones University presented academic papers at the 92nd annual Southern States Communication Association (SSCA) Convention held April 6-10 at the Hyatt Regency Greenville.
Prior to the convention, students from across the region submitted papers for consideration in the SSCA’s competitive, blind review process. Erica Connors ("Culture and Community: Exploring Intercultural Competence through Diversity”); Patricia Duarte (“Knowledge, Mindfulness, and Skill: How People with Transnational Identity Learn to Navigate Workplace Dynamics”) and Ashlyn Hunt (“‘I Just Want to be Green’: Exploring how Third Culture Kids Experience Belonging") presented their research during panel discussions.

"Wall-Breaking" Ceremony Celebrating the Commencement of a $400,000 Renovation in the BJU Seminary Rotunda and Classrooms

The BJU Seminary is holding a “wall-breaking” ceremony to commemorate the start of a $400,000 renovation of the BJU Seminary Rotunda and classrooms located in the Bob Jones Jr. Memorial Seminary and Evangelism Center on the Bob Jones University campus.
BJU Seminary is pursuing a 500 x 5 x 5 Strategic Vision to put 500 pastors on the path to the pulpit in the next five years, and every five years after that, and address a nationwide pastor shortage. The goal of the rotunda renovation is to improve the student experience and increase the Seminary’s attractiveness as a destination for potential enrollees.

Bob Jones University to Present Living Gallery 2022: Through the Darkest Day

Bob Jones University will present its annual Living Gallery April 14-16 in Rodeheaver Auditorium. An Upstate Easter tradition, performances will occur April 14 at 7:30 p.m., April 15 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and April 16 at 2, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Living Gallery illustrates the Gospel narrative through a unique program that combines original drama, special choral and orchestral arrangements and breathtaking live portrayals of classic works of art to celebrate the story of Christ’s birth or resurrection.
For this 25th anniversary production, Jeffrey Stegall and David Burke, the director and playwright respectively for the inaugural Living Gallery in 1998, have collaborated to reimagine the original play. This fresh adaptation incorporates new scenes and characters intended to encourage a pandemic-weary 21st-century audience and focuses on Jesus’ admonition, “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Alpha Iota Sigma (AIS), an international organization established to recognize outstanding academic achievement in the field of interdisciplinary studies, was founded at North Greenville University (NGU) in February. Induction into Alpha Iota Sigma is a prestigious distinction awarded only to the most outstanding students.

North Greenville University (NGU) will present its annual Faith at Work Business Symposium on Monday, April 4, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in Turner Chapel on its Tigerville Campus. This free conference showcases Christian marketplace leaders who prepare and encourage NGU students to have a Kingdom impact through their future leadership. Attendees are motivated to develop a Christian Worldview of business operations while gaining necessary exposure to critical, contemporary, real-world issues approached from a biblical perspective.
“We are excited about presenting the Sixth Annual Faith at Work Business Symposium at North Greenville University this year. This will be the first time that we are holding the symposium in the evening, and we will have two wonderful speakers for this event,” said Dean of the College of Business and Entrepreneurship (COBE) Dr. John B. Duncan. “These gentlemen apply their faith at work every day and we look forward to our students and other attendees hearing their unique insights about how God is currently at work in and through business entities.”

Brian Burch Named Chief Information Officer

Steve Dickinson, vice president for business and operations at Bob Jones University, recently named Brian Burch as BJU Chief Information Officer. Marvin Reem, the longtime former CIO, retired last May.
Burch will be responsible for Information Technology (IT), including managing the IT shared services with BJU Education Group.
“The Lord blessed us with this hire as Brian brings significant CIO experience and leadership skills to our team,” said Dickinson.
A 1985 graduate of Bob Jones Academy, Burch earned a BS in Computer Science from BJU in 1992. He later completed an MBA from Southern Wesleyan University.

The Collegian Staff Wins South Carolina Press Association Awards

The South Carolina Press Association (SCPA) recognized staff members of Bob Jones University’s student newspaper, The Collegian, with multiple awards Friday, March 18, at its annual awards ceremony. Both individual staff members and The Collegian staff in its entirety were honored.
The SCPA Collegiate News Contest recognizes the best in South Carolina collegiate journalism. Collegiate staff members compete against other colleges and universities in 12 different categories, including writing, design, photography and illustration.
