Equipped and set a blaze for ministry, NGU hosts SCBC Converge and Immersion

The South Carolina Baptist Convention (SCBC) held their Converge and Immersion conferences at North Greenville University (NGU) on January 29-30. The meetings, annually held in Hilton Head, were relocated to college campuses this year because of COVID social distancing protocols.
The Immersion program helps participants discover God’s original design for the church – a community of biblical disciple-makers who make more disciple-makers. An SCBC facilitator led the majority of the Immersion experience in small group settings to teach students and faculty members how to better facilitate small groups by leading by example. On Friday, the SCBC team lead in games, one large session, and three small group sessions.

NGU Cline School of Music and School of Theatre Present 'You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown'

The North Greenville University (NGU) Cline School of Music and School of Theatre are collaborating to bring Clark Gesner's "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" to the NGU Billingsley Theatre stage in February.
When the play was first staged on March 7, 1967, there was no real script at Theatre 80 in New York City. The six young actors were armed mostly with ten songs and ten years' worth of cartoons by "Peanuts" creator Charles M. Schulz.

NGU Welcomes New Leadership to Its Trustee Board

North Greenville University (NGU) rings in the new year with new leadership on its governing body. The University's board of trustees begins 2021 with a new chair in Dr. Mike Hamlett, a new vice-chair in Mandie Boyd, and a new secretary in Shana Sands. The slate of new board members for the current term includes five new members who began their five-year terms on Jan. 1.

Legislative Delegations Again Exert Control Over Local Schools

In another power move by county legislative delegations, a Spartanburg County lawmaker has proposed legislation that would establish base pay for members of a local school board.
It’s not the first time in recent years that a county delegation, made up House and Senate members representing that county, has inserted itself into local school board matters.
And delegations have exerted their control in other ways.

Former NGU President George Silver dies at 94

Dr. George Silver, North Greenville University's (NGU) fourth president, died on January 29 in Goldsboro, NC, at 94. He served as North Greenville's president from 1975-1980.
"The entire North Greenville University community is saddened to learn of Dr. Silver's passing," said NGU President Dr. Gene C. Fant, Jr. "He had a remarkable career, making a positive impact on so many lives. We are forever grateful for his contributions and dedication to helping make our University the place it is today. NGU sends its deepest condolences to his family."

NGU Baptist Collegiate Ministry Announces Spring Keynotes

Three world-renowned speakers will be featured at North Greenville University's (NGU) Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) gatherings this spring.
Clayton King, a teaching pastor at NewSpring Church, and his wife Sharie will be featured Thursday, Feb. 18. Dr. Don Wilton, best-selling author, former NGU Trustee, and senior pastor at First Baptist Spartanburg will speak Thursday, March 18. Dr. Johnny Hunt, former president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and senior vice president of evangelism and leadership for the North American Mission Board (NAMB), will speak Thursday, March 25. All services are held in Turner Chapel on the Tigerville Campus.

BJU to Host 2021 Bible Conference

Bob Jones University will host its annual Bible Conference Feb. 16-19 on the BJU campus. This year’s theme, “Sanctify Them” from John 17:17 will explore themes of sanctification and what it means to walk daily with the Lord.
“We always look forward to Bible Conference. It provides a great opportunity for spiritual growth and refreshment. This year, with COVID-19 protocols in mind, services will not be open to the public,” said BJU President Steve Pettit.
