Throwback Thursday: The Forgotten Santee Cooper Oversight Board
- By The Nerve
This week, the House passed two bills dealing with Santee Cooper: one that creates a legislative oversight committee for the state-owned utility, and one that instructs the Santee Cooper joint study committee to oversee the process of selling it.
The problem with both bills? That neither oversight nor the selling process is the role of the legislature – in fact, the legislative committee is the biggest obstacle to a truly beneficial sale of the taxpayers’ asset.

According to a Real Clear Politics average of five polls between mid-March and April 1, four white men -- Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, "Beto" O'Rourke and Pete Buttigieg -- have corralled 62 percent of all Democratic voters.
The three white women running -- Senators Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar and Kirsten Gillibrand -- have, together, a piddling 8 percent.

It’s my goal to make USDA the most effective, most efficient, most customer-focused department in the entire federal government, and farmers.gov is a big step in that direction.”

Nuclear Option Needed to Confirm Judges
- By John & Andy Schlafly
The vast majority of President Trump’s nominees to the federal district courts have been blocked by Democrats in the Senate. Some of them have languished for more than a year, without an up-or-down floor vote on their confirmation.
Tuesday afternoon Democrats rejected a fair compromise offered by Senate Republicans to break the logjam. On a nearly party-line vote, the Senate killed Senate Resolution 50 which would have established a new procedure to facilitate timely confirmation of nominees approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The House budget is a grand total of $29.8 billion – a spending increase of $1.1 billion (or around 3.8%) over last year. This includes a surplus of $328 million.
The state budget consists of three spending categories: General Funds (tax revenue), Federal Funds (revenue derived from the federal government) and Other Funds (fines and fees). However, lawmakers only debate the first category of general fund spending. The amount of federal and other funds each agency receives cannot even be viewed in the budget (instead only general funds and total funds are included).

Nancy Pelosi's Perv Problem
- By Michelle Malkin
If you're a sleazy male Democrat, you can always count on Nancy Pelosi to run interference for you and your pervy proclivities. While she has soaked up plaudits as a champion for women (most recently as the VH1 Trailblazer Honors recipient last month for International Women's Day), what she really deserves is Cheerleader of the Year Award from the Democratic Bad Boys Club.
The latest beneficiary of her soft-glove treatment is former Vice President and potential 2020 Democratic presidential aspirant Joe Biden -- a.k.a. the veep creep. She gently advised him to "pretend you have a cold" and joked during a Politico interview that he should emulate her "straight-arm" policy of keeping distance from others. Giggle, giggle, blink, blink. Reporters laughed along.

Taxpayer Schemes: How Some Tourist, Ecodevo Groups Win State Grants
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
S.C. lawmakers are funneling millions in tax dollars collectively to economic development and tourism organizations in the state – with the requirement that the groups secure private matches for grants.
These types of “public-private partnerships” have been common in recent years in South Carolina, purportedly to ensure that taxpayers don’t pay most of the cost of promoting the Palmetto State to tourists or companies.

Who Is Your Doctor?
- By Dr. Jane M. Orient
People used to know who their doctor was. His name and phone number were on the wall or the refrigerator next to the telephone. He was there for you and could manage most of your problems.
When I was about 13, my mom took me to our pediatrician for belly pain. He was on his way out the door, but he stopped to take care of me. He diagnosed appendicitis based on history and physical examination. He called his favorite surgeon (“Billy,” a Tucson legend), who came from the golf course to meet me in the emergency room. Within hours, my red-hot appendix was in a jar. My parents paid the hospital bill ($150—10 days’ pay for a construction laborer) as I was discharged a few days later.

Dems' POW Flags Still AWOL
- By Tony Perkins
If Friday was National Vietnam Veterans Day, Democrats had a funny way of celebrating it. While the Defense Department and other agencies stopped to honor the nine million Americans who served, liberal congressmen, apparently, couldn't be bothered. They were too busy pulling the POW/MIA flags out of their stands to make room for the baby blue and pink banner of the transgender movement. It's "Transgender Visibility Week," some tried to explain. But when it comes to Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) party, isn't every week?
