Tigerville Elementary Principal Receives National Honor

Tigerville Elementary School Principal Diane Jackson is one of eleven principals nationwide to be honored with the Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership. U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced the 2018 recipients this morning. Tigerville Elementary was named a National Blue Ribbon School on October 1.
Jackson said, “I am extremely proud of the students, staff and families at Tigerville Elementary. I am honored to be the principal of such a great school. At our school we practice an “all in” philosophy, everyone does what it takes to make sure every child succeeds.”

NGU Crowns 2018 Homecoming Queen

Tigerville, SC – Allison Yeater, a marketing major from Belpre, OH, was crowned queen for North Greenville University’s 2018 Homecoming on Saturday, October 13.
NGU President Dr. Gene C. Fant, Jr., 2017 Homecoming Queen Eden Crain, and Miss NGU 2018 Hannah Pearson crowned Yeater during halftime of the Crusaders’ football game against the Hawks of Shorter University.

The Greenville Little Theatre on Tour Presents to Washington Center Students

The Greenville Little Theatre on Tour presented a thrilling rendition of “Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook” for the students and staff of Washington Center. In preparation for the presentation, students listened to books from the Junie B. Jones series and participated in parallel activities. The story came alive as the Washington Center audience eagerly watched and applauded the talented Greenville Little Theatre on Tour actors.

Kennesaw State University Removes Restrictive 'Speech Zones' for Pro-Life Student Group

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. -- Through a lawsuit last February, the Kennesaw State University chapter of Ratio Christi Campus Apologetics Alliance has prompted KSU to change its "speech zones" policies. On several occasions, KSU had relegated Ratio Christi's pro-life displays to be presented in a "speech zone" that made up less than 0.08 percent of the 405-acre campus, stating the subject was "controversial," and denying the use of other available space on campus.

BJU Hosts Guest Voice Recital Featuring Dr. Meryl Mantione and Dr. Mei Zhong

The Bob Jones University Division of Music will host vocalists Dr. Meryl Mantione, lyric mezzo-soprano, and Dr. Mei Zhong, soprano, Friday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. in War Memorial Chapel. They will give a collaborative voice recital of duets by Mendelssohn, Hua, Dvorak, Offenbach, Brahms, and Puccini. They will be accompanied by esteemed vocal coach and pianist, Ms. Hyery Hwang.
Mantione and Zhong will conduct a voice masterclass in Stratton Hall from 12:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m on Saturday, October 20.

Washington Center Students are Studying the SC Mountains and Beaches

Who loves the beach? Students in Mrs. Kim Poole’s classroom at Washington Center do! They are studying geographic features of South Carolina such as mountains and beaches. Students listened to the sound of ocean waves, dug their fingers in some sand, and tasted salty water as they talked about the coast of South Carolina. Students created map with sand along the coastline to represent the state’s beaches and blue glitter waves to represent the ocean. Students will add more features to their map as they continue to explore the diverse geographic features of South Carolina.
