Sheri Few Candidate for S.C. Superintendent of Education
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Few is founder of South Carolina Parents Involved in Education SCPIE and a leading opponent of federal Common Core Standards in South Carolina schools
Sheri Few has announced that she is seeking the office of Superintendent of Education since Dr. Mick Zais has decided not to run for reelection. During a press conference in Columbia she discussed her interest and involvement in the education of South Carolina children and what has motivated her to seek the elected office.
“I am a committed parent who was very involved in my children’s public school education. As a result of what I saw in my children’s curriculum, I was motivated to form the non-[profit South Carolina Parents Involved in Education. Since that time, I have studied education policy and worked to protect our children from the liberal biases found in nearly every discipline of public education.

Christianity in Iran
- By Dr. Al Snyder
An American-Iranian Christian pastor, Saeed Abedini, 33 years old, is now in an Iranian dungeon prison. Born to a devout Moslem family in Iran, he was recruited to become a suicide bomber at age 20.
As he witnessed the hatred and brutality of his Moslem trainers, he decided that Islam was not for him. He trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior and converted to Christianity. Soon he began to openly proclaim his faith in Christ.
In the early 2000's, Abedini headed up 100 house churches in 30 cities, reaching about 2,000 members when the movement was tolerated by the Iranian government. But with the election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2005, the house church movement was subjected to a crackdown by Iranian authorities, and the Abedini family moved to the United States.
The Debate on Common Core
- By Johnnelle Raines - Regional Upstate Leader of SC Parents Involved in Education
First of all I want to congratulate The Times Examiner and WORD radio for recognizing what is truly important news to cover. They were the only newspaper and radio show I am aware of that was in attendance at the Debate on Common Core held at Greer High School this past week sponsored by SC Senators Tom Corbin, Representatives Mike Burns and Dwight Loftis.
SC Parents Involved in Education’s President Sheri Few, American Principal Project’s Jane Robbins, and Americans Have Had Enough’s Executive Director Roan Garcia Quintana decimated the representatives from SC Education Association’s representatives in this debate. They made it clear Common Core is NOT in the best interest of SC children. All the local TV stations, radios, and newspapers were sent a press release...but obviously they didn't think the future of SC children's education was important enough to cover. Shame on them!
Robert Gates, the Washington Chameleon
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Little lizards in tropical areas of the Pacific change color to blend in with their environment. Robert Gates, Washington insider, and former Secretary of Defense under both Presidents Bush and Obama, was a little man who took on many characteristics of the lizard that changed colors, except he did not “crawl on his belly like a reptile.”
Gates allegedly lied for Bush and lied even more for Obama. The Secretary of Defense is the only person between the Commander-in-Chief and the Joint Chiefs of Staff who has the authority to protect the military from illegal, unwise, and unconstitutional orders. Gates apparently did nothing to protect the military from unsound decisions by President Obama while he had the responsibility to do so, but now, from the safety of academia, and it is too late to make a difference; he is critical of his former boss.

Look Alike Historians bring a message from the Past
The officers and members of the 16th Regiment South Carolina Volunteers Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 36 welcomed guests from as far away as Germany and Hungary to their annual Lee-Jackson Banquet.
Robert Edward Lee was born January 19, 1807, and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson was born January 21, 1824.
The beloved General Lee, having been the Commandant at West Point, was offered command of the Union Army by the Lincoln Administration, declined and chose to defend Virginia instead. He survived the war, became a college president and led the former Confederacy in the healing process and return to the union.

Years of Ethics Complaints Against Bobby Harrell By SC Policy Council Finally Gain Traction
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced Monday that he had turned the SLED investigation report on Ethics violation allegations against House Speaker Bobby Harrell over to a State Grand Jury.
With the State House opening it’s 2014 session the following day, Harrell is placed in a serious political situation. He called on state authorities to release their findings to the public, which will not happen with the case going to a Grand Jury where proceedings are secret.
The Attorney General’s office has had the SLED report in house about one month for review before deciding to send it to the Grand Jury.

Common Core Standards Were NOT Properly Vetted
- By Johnnelle Raines - Pickens, SC
I am a citizen of South Carolina and I am concerned about children's education. I have taken the time to read all the Common Core Standards grades K through 12 as well as research the problems associated with these standards. The problems are multiple in number and grave in level of concern.
Common Core Standards were NOT properly vetted. There is NO research to support their effectiveness. They have NOT been field tested. Bottom line is SC children are guinea pigs and our 2010 State Board of Education, Education Oversight Committee, Former Superintendent Jim Rex and Governor Mark Sanford have pimped SC children out to the highest bidder...Bill Gates. Bill Gates has spent close to 150 MILLION dollars to promote these standards. Why, you may ask, did our education decision makers sell our students out? The answer pure and simple...to get Federal Race to the Top money and a No Child Left Behind waiver. Their decision was NOT based on factual information these standards were better than our previous standards.
Struggle for Soul of Republican Party
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Allowing Barack Obama to control both houses of congress with two years unlimited power to dismantle everything good about our nation is unthinkable. If the republic is to survive, Republicans must retain control of the House and gain control of the Senate. Only then can the reckless but calculated disregard for the Constitution and ruthless abuse of the God-given rights of American citizens be constrained.
Replacing liberal Democrats with the same ilk simply because they have an “R” behind their name would be even worse than keeping the current crop of Democrats in office. The “R” has become virtually meaningless in other parts of the country and even in South Carolina where, by law, Democrats may participate in Republican primaries and help select Republican candidates to participate in General Elections. Some lawmakers with an “R” behind their name support this insane law.

We Never Learn from History Because Factual History is Not Taught
Thousands of Americans died and even more were wounded in action in Vietnam. The wounded combat veterans would be handicapped for the remainder of their lives. The military won every battle during the Vietnam War, however, the Communist influence on members of congress led to the United States cutting off all funds for both the American and South Vietnamese military, and South Vietnam was abandoned to the Communist invaders without meaningful resistance.
Boomer’s Tale - Part 6
- By W. H. Lamb
About Painful Joints, Red-suited Invaders, and Obamacare
Happy New Year, everyone! This is Boomer back with you again at the start of the new year of 2014. While I’m still not certain as to just exactly what a “year” is, and what happened to the year 2013, which I was enjoying just a few days ago, I suppose I’ll have to agree with my Grampa and Gramma (the two humans I try to take care of), when I heard them say that, “The older we get the faster the years seem to fly by.” I didn’t realize that “years” had wings with which they can fly, but I think I understood what they meant, for at almost 11 years old I can remember my humans talking a lot about “flying years” all during my lifetime. I’ll have to watch carefully this New Year to try to spot a “year” flying by me. I know that those stupid crow bird things that I dislike have wings, and keep flying away when I try to catch one of them; perhaps a “year” is some kind of bird. Perhaps ... There I go, digressing again. It’s a bad habit of mine.

Facing the Challenges of a New Year
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The year 2013 has been a virtual nightmare for many Americans. Most Americans are seeing their standard of living shrink and the prospects of a dismal uncertain future. The “Affordable Health Care Act” is destroying the best health care system the world has known and there seems to be no real will to reverse it.
Military families are being torn apart by frequent combat tours and social experiments imposed by the current administration that does not understand nor do they care about the men and women who defend the nation with their lives.

Subtle Methods of the Liberal Media

Observe how Reporters for Liberal Media tend to Portray Conservatives as a Crude and Ignorant Passing Phenomenon Composed of Mindless Followers of Rush Limbaugh
Washington Post readers were recently given a portrait of what they described as “tea party groups feeling besieged” in Greenville, South Carolina.
“Although poll numbers showed the tea party more unpopular than ever, here was Mary Beth Green arriving in a car with a bumper sticker that read, “I am a Free American.”
Waving a biscuit, Dean Allen said: “When we are demoralized, we get crap like Obama in the White House.” Allen, who is writing a book, titled Rattlesnake Revolution: The Tea Party Strikes, said it was people like him who are the future of the party.
Ethics Committee Drops All Charges Against Rep. Chumley

Passionate Grass roots Support Influenced Reversal of Political “Witch Hunt”
Representative Bill Chumley has been exonerated. The South Carolina House Ethics Committee has dropped all charges against the state representative from Woodruff who introduced and pushed a bill through the State House to nullify Obamacare and block it from from implementation in South Carolina, ruffling the feathers of the House Speaker and others.
A complaint was filed against Chumley by his political Democrat challenger, who alleged that Chumley had violated SC Code 8-13-765 that in part prohibits the use of government personnel or facilities for campaign purposes.
How to Get Started Homeschooling – The Concise Version
- By Holly Sheen
Homeschooling is much easier than you think. A grand aura has been built up around EDUCATION so that most parents are completely intimidated at the thought of teaching their own children. Nevermind that these same parents have been teaching these same children almost everything they know for at least four or five years previous to arriving at ‘school age.’ Tacking on some academics to everything else a parent teaches a child is not that mysterious. Grab a few books, find some like-minded homeschoolers who can give you pointers, figure out the state law, and you are on your way. Yes, it’s that simple.
Ken Ward Honored for 38-Years Community Service
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The Tigerville Fire Department honored Charles K. “Ken” Ward and his wife Betty Jean during the annual awards banquet Friday night at North Greenville University. Chief Russell Ledford made the presentation and cited Ward for 38 years of dedicated service as a volunteer firefighter and 22 years as a Fire Commissioner. His commission term ends this month and Ward has decided at age 80 to allow younger firemen to rush out in the middle of the night in all kinds of weather to fight fires and preserve lives. Although he is retiring from official duties, no one expects Ken Ward to sit in a rocking chair at home if his fellow firemen are heading to a fire or assisting a neighbor in distress.
The Cholesterol Scam
- By Dr. Joe Carrano
We are told that cholesterol is a major cause of heart disease. At least 40 million Americans are currently taking cholesterol-lowering medications, known as statins, and millions more people are avoiding foods that contain saturated fat and cholesteroL
The basic idea is that dietary saturated fat raises cholesterol levels, and these two substances somehow clog-up our arteries, causing a heart attack.
However, a number of doctors and researchers have been challenging this hypothesis for decades, and the latest heart disease statistics reveal some alarming facts. Such as:
What is the Reason for the Season?
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Driving home from work tonight through mostly rural Greenville County, I counted eleven churches. I saw no Nativity scenes or any other indication that the celebration of the birth of Jesus was approaching. This is despite the fact that all these churches claim to have a sole mission of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For some unexplained reason, over the years, several important churches have removed any reference to God or Jesus from their signs out front.
What is happening to the organized church? Is it too much trouble to erect a Nativity scene? Are we afraid of offending Muslims or Atheists? Maybe we are just afraid to be bold followers and representatives of Jesus Christ.

Greenville County Schools have experienced a rash of bomb threats in recent days. Three high school students have now been arrested and charged with “conveying false information regarding attempted use of a destructive device,” a felony.

A student at the school located the threat which was written on a note and notified school administrators. Once everyone was out of the school, staff conducted a search of the entire school and did not locate any suspicious devices.
