Who is Educating Our Children?
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Last week, a website originating in Texas, said to be related to Glenn Beck, published an article alleging that a Greenville County high school was using a history text that stated the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution incorrectly. Calls came to the Greenville County School District. The District promptly issued a statement to the media stating that the allegation was correct and that more than one school in the District was using the senior class history book.
District schools had been notified of the error in the textbook as soon as administrators verified its existence. It further acknowledged that the book has been used in Greenville County Schools for five years and that it had been approved by the South Carolina Board of Education for inclusion in the list of approved texts.
Exposing Common Core Event Brings National Experts to Columbia
- By SCPIE President, Sheri Few
Exposing Common Core, an education forum sponsored by South Carolina Parents Involved in Education (SCPIE), was held in Columbia over the weekend. The event was held at the Columbia Convention Center and began at 9am Saturday. SCPIE President Sheri Few welcomed approximately 150 people from all across the state who came to hear national experts present the problems with the Common Core National Standards.
American Principles Project Jane Robbins gave an overview of the problems with Common Core and explained how the Federal government coerced states into adopting the standards. From a lawyer’s perspective, Jane explained that the Federal government’s involvement in the adoption of the standards, and the accompanying assessments, violates the U.S. Constitution and three Federal statutes.

Constitution Very Much Alive in America
- By James Moore
Coulter Speaks at Furman
When Ann Coulter was invited by the Furman University’s Conservative Students for a Better Tomorrow to speak on campus on September 19, there was one question that they wanted her to answer. The question that they felt most compelling to address was whether or not the Constitution was dead or alive in America.
“It may be dead in the ACLU meetings. It may be dead in the Democratic caucus, and it may be on life support in the Supreme Court, but in the hearts of the American people the Constitution is very much alive,” said Coulter.
Coulter feels that the Constitution is doing just fine. The problem, she feels, is that some of those in power refuse to read the document. From abortion rights to the right to bear arms, Coulter gave examples of how the left has tried to misinterpret rights, but has often failed. She spoke about how liberals are in favor of choice only when it pertains to topics that can further their agenda.

- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Executive Committee Voted 82 Percent to 18 Percent to Censure U. S. Senator Lindsey Graham for Repeated Comments and Votes Against SCGOP Platform
During their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, September 19, eighty-two percent of the Fairfield County Republican Party Executive Committee voted to pass a seven page Resolution censoring U. S. Senator Lindsey Graham.
Copies of the Censure Resolution were sent to Senator Graham, SCGOP Chairman Matt Moore and each SouthCarolina county chairman. The Greenville County Republican Party Executive Committee is set to vote on a similar censure of Sen. Graham during their regular meeting on October 7, 2013. The Resolution was introduced in August.
Do Republicans Offer an Alternative?
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Many Americans unsatisfied with the current regime in Washington, D. C. are asking the question: “Do Republicans offer an alternative?” For the nation, the question is difficult to answer. In South Carolina, the answer is easier because it is contained in state law. The same political party and plantation mentality that gave the Palmetto State “Jim Crow” laws and racial segregation for a century passed the laws that ensured that incumbents would be secure in their positions of power and new lawmakers would become loyal to them or have no legislative influence. This allowed the career politicians to maintain political power and control the wealth of the state, regardless of the shift in political winds.
Greenville County Opens Unique Juvenile Detention Facility
- By James "Chip" Moore
A goal set by Greenville County in 2004 has finally come to fruition with the opening of the Juvenile Detention Facility and State Operated Assessment Center. The facility that was used to house work release inmates is now being used to bring together different agencies that will give Greenville County juveniles the best possible help that is offered. The facility is being hailed as a “one of its kind” support system unlike anything in the Southeast.
“The Greenville County Juvenile Detention Facility connected with the state operated assessment center is going to be a very successful program. We’ve brought together multiple agencies, placed them in a shared location allowing them to share resources while creating the best possible environment for at risk children and their families,” said Joe Kernell, Greenville County Administrator.
Converse College Reduces Tuition 43 percent
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Converse is the first South Carolina college to reduce tuition by pushing back against the trend of increased cost
Converse College has announced it will reset its tuition price at $16,500, a 43 percent decrease from the current tuition price, for full-time students in its traditional undergraduate program starting with the 2014-15 academic year. The move aligns the institution's “sticker price” more-closely with the average net cost to attend. Converse is the first institution in South Carolina to make such a move.

Eleventh Honor Flight Takes WWII Vets to Visit Washington Memorials
- By Paul Howell
On Thursday, Sep. 12, 2013, a group of 85 WWII veterans departed from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport to Washington, D.C., on the eleventh Honor Flight from Upstate South Carolina. The group, accompanied by one hundred guardians, doctors, nurses, support staff, and media visited the World War II, Vietnam, Korean and Marine Corps War Memorials. This flight marked the 300th nationwide for US Airways, the original charter for Honor Flight. Additional highlights for this trip included the largest number of African American veterans and female veterans that HFU has taken to date on any single flight; a guardian who was held captive in Vietnam, and suffered the POW camp as one of the longest-held captives; a WWII veteran who is a retired General and served as a pilot; and multiple stories from each of the honorees that we hope will be told in the weeks ahead to family, friends and congregations.

Israel's Chaotic Neighborhood
- By Dr. Al Snyder
Our U.S. President Obama is now planning to add to the widespread Middle East combustion by bombing Syria, because they have allegedly used chemical weapons on their own civilian people. Meanwhile Israel is still standing by, holding its breath, and watching with keen special interest. In fact, as Isreal looks to the north, south, east and west, they see nothing but trouble and turmoil among all their neighbor Arab and Moslem nations.
Stay out of Syria!
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
An attack on a sovereign nation by another nation is an act of war. That is pure and simple. War results from a failure of diplomacy by national executives. The purpose of warfare is to “destroy the enemy and his will to fight.” The only sane outcome of war is “a military victory.” If that is not the objective, stay out! Don’t sacrifice American troops or precious resources to protect political egos and pride or credibility.

Observers from Columbia Jubilant after Groover's 55 to 52 Victory
Chad Groover won a narrow 55 to 52 victory over Samuel Harms Monday night to become the chairman of the Greenville County Republican Party Executive Committee. The outcome, although virtually evenly divided, was seen by observers as a rejection of “Tea Party” and “RINO Hunt” Republican activists by “Establishment Republicans” and Sen. Lindsey Graham supporters.
The outcome was of great interest to South Carolina GOP executives and the legislative leadership in Columbia. House Speaker Bobby Harrell had an observer on site.
The election was conducted by secret ballot. Candidates spent more than an hour responding to questions from committeemen from the floor.
About Face, Retreat, Find Scapegoat
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Much of the nation acted surprised Saturday when President Obama “chickened” out on his “red line” threat to take action against Syria for using nerve gas on Syrian citizens. After his “about face” announcement, Obama retreated to safety of the golf course with “uncle Joe” and pitched the “hot potato” of dealing with his “red line” threat to an out of session Congress that won’t return to Washington until September 9th. It is not at all clear what action Congress will take. Regardless, it was a brilliant political move and escape strategy by an administration and president with a schizophrenic foreign policy that has painted itself in a corner with words that they can’t back up with deeds.

Joined by representatives of the University family, contractors and city, county and state officials, Jones recognized donors and several individuals who played key roles in the nearly $6 million renovation project. Following the brief program, attendees enjoyed lunch in the newly-renovated facilities.
Imposing Political Correctness in Greenville County Schools

Limited Religious Expression Allowed on School Property by Students and Employees
While the elected Greenville County School Board was busy raising taxes and voting themselves pay raises, teachers were being instructed as to when, where and how they may pray. When schools opened last week, there was confusion, frustration and many unanswered questions.
All or some teachers and administrators were given a Power Point presentation describing in great detail how their religious practices would be regulated when acting in the capacity of a school employee.
Betrayed by “French” Republicans
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Best-selling author and syndicated radio host Mark Levin recently coined the phrase “French Republicans” to describe those Republican leaders at the RNC, in Congress and state legislatures who are anxious to surrender at the first sign of opposition. Their only commitment is to use and abuse their conservative base that they take for granted and without which they would win no national elections and achieve virtually nothing worthwhile.
A revealing statement by a federal judge last Wednesday in a Spartanburg Federal Courtroom exposed the devious work of “French” Republicans in South Carolina. Unfortunately, local citizens who depend on the liberal media for their local, state and national news reports know nothing about this exposure of South Carolina Republican Party officials.
Why Should We Place Our Trust in SCGOP Leadership?
- By Stephen Brown
Anyone paying the slightest attention to Republican Party politics knows that there are sharp divisions within the Republican Party regarding how to best fight and defeat the big government agenda of the Democrat Party. That liberal agenda is proudly championed by Democrats and often quietly enabled by their allies found within the ranks of the GOP. At the federal level, we see divisions within the Republican Party over such issues as border security, immigration, NSA surveillance of U.S. citizens without a warrant and the defunding of Obamacare. Many times we find the actions of conservative leaders within the Republican Party thwarted by those establishment Republicans, such as Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, who undercut the efforts of our conservative movement and its leadership. Unfortunately, such divisions within the GOP are not only found in Washington. Those divisions are very much alive and in play right here at home in South Carolina.
Haley to Run Again for Governor
- By James "Chip" Moore
When it came time for Governor Nikki Haley to decide if she would run for a second term there were a few deciding factors.
“I sat down and said when I ran the first time that I don’t want to run again if I don’t think we’re moving the ball. I need to know that we’re doing more than just butting heads. I need to know we’re making a difference,” said Haley “And we did that. You looked at our promises and it isn’t what we said, it is what we’ve done…We did that as the team of South Carolina.”
City Driving “Cameras Unlimited” Out of Business
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
“When they took my Sign, they Kind-of Put a Hole in my Heart”
Lloyd Turner bought a building at 641 Wade Hampton Boulevard in 1986 and opened Cameras Unlimited at that location.
On March 7th, 2013, he received a certified letter from Bryan Wood, Zoning Administrator for the City of Greenville. The sign on his property had been declared dilapidated.
Section 19-6.6.2(0) of the city code defines a dilapidated sign as “a sign that the administrator has determined is structurally unsound, has defective parts, or is in need of painting or maintenance.”
The City’s paid public servant saved his choice words for the veteran business owner for the last paragraph: “If the required corrective actions are not completed by the stated date, administrative summonses may be issued for you to appear in Municipal Court. For each violation you may be punished by a fine of not more than $1,205.00 and/or by imprisonment for not more than 30 days. Each day any violation continues shall constitute a separate offense.”
White Guilt, Voter Apathy and Ignorance
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The lack of interest in government by many Americans is appalling and may ultimately result in the collapse of our society and put us on the same economic level as India and Egypt. Sadly, an important segment of our society that was once the backbone of our republic is now suffering from white guilt, ignorance and voter apathy.
If you want to become depressed, just ask the next ten people you meet on the street, in a business, or in your church congregation a few questions about their government at the federal, state or local level. Unless the individuals are Times Examiner readers, WORD radio or FOX news listeners and viewers, they will be ignorant of current government related events, severely misinformed or totally disinterested. The largest group seems to be the disinterested; who by choice are both ignorant and misinformed. They were a deciding factor in electing Barack Obama to a second term because they stayed home on Election Day.
The Adams Family
- By Terry M. Thacker
“They're crazy and they're kooky. . .”
No, no, not the Addams Family, but rather, the Adams Family, as in John and John Quincy Adams. One 'd,' not two. Few families in American have had such an impact on our history as the Adams family of Quincy, Massachusetts.
In addition to being the second president of these United States, the patriarch of the family, John Adams, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence as well. He also served as ambassador to the court of Saint James in London after relations were restored with Great Britain after the American Revolution.
