Henderson Defeats Smith in District 21 GOP Primary

Will Face Democrat Smith in December 14 Special Election
Phyllis Henderson defeated Keith Smith in the October 26 GOP runoff to represent District 21 in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Only 8.63 percent of the registered voters in the Eastside Greenville County District voted in the primary. Henderson and Smith had been the two top vote recipients in a special primary to pick a replacement for the late William Wylie who died in office. Henderson, the Republican nominee, will face Democrat Susan Scarborough Smith in a December 14 special election.

SLED To Issue Arrest Warrant in Robo-Call Push-Poll Case

Gilstrap, Other Women Candidates Victims of Alleged Illegal robo-call push-polls
Judy Gilstrap, District 26 Democratic candidate for the South Carolina House of Representatives, confirmed Monday night that she has been the victim of robo-call push-polls and was informed by SLED that a warrant for the arrest of Robert Cahaly was imminent.
No information was provided regarding who Cahaly, a professional political operative, was working for or with.

Three leaders of the Upcountry Coalition recently responded to vicious verbal attacks on Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Nikki Haley by her Democrat opponent Vince Sheheen and a small group of unhappy Republicans.
The spokesmen for the coalition were Roan Garcia-Quintana, Harry Kibler and Jim Wilkie.

Race in District 26 Provides Clear Contrast
Carol Joan Gibson is challenging Roger Meek for the school board seat in District 26 on Greenville’s west side. Meek has served four four-year terms on the board and Gibson hopes to provide fresh ideas and renewed energy with no past decisions to justify.
All 6 Greenville County School Board members up for reelection this year have challenges in the Nov. 2 General Election. This is believed to be the first time this happened in at least a decade, indicating the degree of dissatisfaction with the current board.

Overflow Crowd at RINO Hunt Meeting Hears Dynamic Call for Action

“Get out the Vote, Elect Conservatives, Replace Leadership in Columbia”
Speakers at the RINO Hunt meeting in Greenville County, Friday night, called on conservatives to concentrate on local and state elections for the next two weeks and elect true conservatives who are willing to vote for smaller government and change the way business is being conducted in Columbia.
The speakers included Ashley Landess, President of the South Carolina Policy Council, Sen. Tom Davis of Beaufort County, Rep. Ralph Norman of York County and Talbert Black Jr., from Lexington County, interim state coordinator for the Campaign for Liberty.

Greenville County Council Property Tax Reassessment Workshop Set for Friday Noon

Greenville County mailed out property tax reassessments last week and council members have been inundated with calls from property owners with questions. The purpose of the workshop is for the county assessor to brief the council members on the legal requirements and methods used to determine the new values.

Regulatory Crisis to Affect Everyone

Already feeling the detrimental effects of heavy-handed EPA regulations in the county, around 60 to 70 citizens gathered in Pickens County last Tuesday night to voice their fears about revised Federal Clean Air Standards. In a meeting called by the Pickens County Taxpayers Association, Pickens County Legislative Delegation members heard citizens’ concerns over revised clean air standards. Also in attendance was a SC DHEC representative from the Bureau of Air Quality, US House 3rd Congressional District candidate Jeff Duncan, as well as state House candidate Eric Bikas.
