- By Bob Dill, Publisher
So Much for Campaign Promises of “No Tax Increased for Middle Class”
Unless the Democrat dominated Congress acts before December 31, 2010, Americans of all income levels will face massive tax increases despite the appealing promises of “no tax increases for those making less than $200,000,” made by Candidate Barack Obama before becoming President of the United States.

I Should Have Ordered the Meatloaf
- By Terry M. Thacker
As I left the Petersburg National Battlefield, about which I wrote last week, I turned right onto Crater Road. I did not have far to go before I found another site of historic interest – Blandford Church.
I pulled right onto the grounds of the extensive cemetery, drove around a bit, then parked near the church in order to get a photo. Unfortunately the photo turned out rather dark. (I am definitely getting a digital camera before my next trip.) It was evening time and the building was closed for tours for the day, but I later looked up the church on the internet and found some information.
Rowena Booker, “The Real Maverick”

The South Carolina Black Conservative Movement Anti-Illegal Immigration Rally
With temperatures in the 90’s, the weather was not the only heat of the day. As the crowd came together at the Statehouse in Columbia for the Anti-Illegal Immigration Rally organized by The Black Conservative Movement, the heat was placed on President Obama and the liberals in Congress and the State Legislature. Rowena Booker, the Founder and President of The Black Conservative Movement, was the last speaker of the event. Mrs. Booker said “We have stepped off the plantation and there are many black conservatives that are afraid to step off the plantation.”
Should Greenville County Council Follow the Lead of Knox White and Open Bars on Sunday?
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
By the time you read this piece, Greenville County Council will have killed in committee or allowed to continue through the approval process and a second reading a proposal to have a referendum on Sunday alcohol sales by the drink in bars and restaurants in the unincorporated areas of Greenville County.
The question is currently presented as one of economics, business profitability and customer service. In the past, it was a question of morals and religious belief. That was when the Ten Commandments and “Remember the Sabbath Day, to Keep it Holy” was built into the fabric of the community. That was before the “Bible Belt” was invaded by men on bicycles wearing spandex from places where the Ten Commandments were banned.

Reader Response to Dr. Woodard
- By Steve Lefemine
Woodard wrong, Catholic Sheheen No Conservative on "Abortion"
In the headline article in the July 28 issue of The Times Examiner, it states: "On social issues Sheheen is a conservative [sic]. Sheheen is Catholic, and if he takes his church's view on abortion, stem cell research, gay [sic] marriage [sic] and euthanasia, ""he will be a very formidable candidate," Woodard said."
This description of pro-abort SC State Senator Vincent Sheheen (D) attributed to Dr. David Woodard, a professor of political science at Clemson University, is demonstrably false vis-a-vis the "abortion" issue.
The Crater
- By Terry M. Thacker
For four years in the 1980’s I lived within a few miles of the Petersburg National Battlefield Park in Petersburg, Virginia. Being a Civil War enthusiast, I naturally visited it many times during that period. Or so one would think.
Actually, I visited the battlefield only once during all that time, and even on that one occasion I visited only the visitor center.
I decided to remedy that deficiency in my Civil War touring this past February when I took a trip to Baltimore to help my mother celebrate her 90th birthday.
Local Action the Answer to Federal Aggression
- By Tom DeWeese
Growing numbers of concerned, dedicated Americans are joining the nationwide protests against ever-higher taxes; the outrage of Obamacare; the bailouts and the Federal Reserve; the growing government surveillance society; and the destruction of private property rights through policies including Sustainable Development. The question now among these new activists is “what’s the next step?”
It’s time for action, and to that end, I am announcing the Freedom Action National Conference, to be held August 12 – 14, 2010, at the Dolce Hotel in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

Liberals Botching the Afghan War
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The attitude of the Obama administration in Washington regarding the war in Afghanistan is causing flashbacks for veterans of the Vietnam War. We know that those who do not learn the lessons of history will live to repeat those lessons. Sadly, Americans have been taught revisionist history and we are already repeating mistakes the second and third times during some of our lifetimes. We were told that our government and the American people had learned from the experience in Vietnam. Our government would never let it happen again. But things have changed. Many of our current national leaders and top bureaucrats were supporting the enemy during the Vietnam War. They or their parents, professors and favorite “news” casters were throwing fire bombs, spitting on Soldiers returning from the battlefield, and taunting the parents and siblings of fallen heroes. They loathed the military then and still do, and they hate the things about America that our ancestors fought and died to preserve.

“Wade Hampton III” Returns to Greenville
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Eddie Rogers as Gen. Wade Hampton III
Eddie Rogers received a standing ovation for his portrayal of General Wade Hampton III in Greenville, Thursday night at the Phoenix Inn. An accurate recording of history would likely reveal Wade Hampton III to be the greatest South Carolinian who ever lived. It is appropriate that Greenville County has a highway and high school named in his honor. Two historical events tie Hampton to the Upcountry. Both of his great grandparents were massacred by Indians near what is now Greer. His grandfather, the first Wade Hampton, as a teenager survived only because he was away from the homestead hunting game at the time. When Gen. Wade Hampton III led the “Second American Revolution” during his campaign for Governor of South Carolina during “Reconstruction,” in 1876, a record crowd of thousands greeted him on University Ridge, the current location of Greenville County Square.

Is Your Tap Water Making You Sick?
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
It Could Be Chloramine!
Three citizens appeared before the Greenville County Council during their July 20 meeting, requesting assistance in getting Chloramine, a combination of bleach and ammonia, removed from the Greenville and Greer tap water. They testified that bleach and ammonia in drinking water causes “breathing problems, skin irritations and digestive problems.” Their appeals to the Greenville Water System and Greer Commission of Public Works, that operates the water system for Greer, were unresponsive to their complaints.
Alvin Greene and the Deception Machine
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Alvin Greene is the candidate Democrats chose in their primary election to challenge U. S. Senator Jim DeMint in the November 2, 2010, General Election. Greene won easily over a wealthy white liberal attorney politician in the Democrat primary.
Since his election as the Democrat candidate for the United States Senate, Democrat party leaders and the Progressive media have informed us that Greene is an embarrassment, an unknown quantity with limited ability, with criminal pornography charges pending against him. Allegations by a white University of South Carolina coed are the basis for the criminal charge. The alleged victim and her mother have appeared on television to dramatize the charges.
Obama Takes Illinois Mistakes Nationwide
- By Phyllis Schlafley
"Unsustainable" is a scary word that recently entered political discourse, coming authoritatively from Congressional Budget Office (CBO)
Director Douglas Elmendorf. Unsustainability is the operative moniker for Barack Obama's massive deficit spending, which Elmendorf said "cannot be solved through minor tinkering."
The CBO predicts an increase in our public debt from $7.5 trillion at the end of 2009 to $20.3 trillion at the end of 2020 if Obama's fiscal 2011 budget is implemented. As a percentage of gross domestic product, the debt will rise from 53 percent to 90 percent.

World War II Combat Veteran Recalls Parachuting Behind Enemy Lines With 82nd Airborne Division
Sitting in his office at his spacious White Horse Road home that sprawls across a grassy knoll, Melvin Wagstaff looked healthy and fit for a veteran of World War II as he smiled and greeted visitors. Our host soon revealed that the years have taken a toll on his 86-year old body that for most of those years was solid and healthy. He now has health problems that modern medicine cannot reverse. Declining health is difficult for an indestructible “fighting machine” whose physical strength served him well during lengthy periods of combat and remained strong and healthy throughout a long and productive civilian life.

There are Now 133 Members Pledged to Support Repeal
Eight more members of the US House signed on to support the plan to repeal Obamacare. That is more than half of the 218 members needed to pass the 435 member House.
The goal of the repeal bill is to “pull out by the roots” the legislation that, among other things, will require citizens to purchase “government-approved” health insurance whether they want it or not.

Why Are Americans Cynical?
- By Karl Day
There is a saying used somewhat facetiously that declares “when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.” A similar saying could apply to the terrible oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. When hours count, government help is only months away. Despite President Obama’s protestations to the contrary, the current administration has proven itself to be woefully incompetent in the handling of this environmental disaster.
If Obama’s claim that he has been on top of this situation since day one is true then he should be impeached. As I write this, we are at day 76 of this disaster and despite the efforts of thousands of individuals, relatively little has been accomplished. The big news today is that the Whale, a huge converted oil tanker with the potential of processing 21 million gallons of oil contaminated water is now in the Gulf. But what is it doing? It is engaged in testing under the oversight of the Environmental Protection Agency.
